Credit/Housing Counselor

Are you ready to join a growing team where you can make a real difference? The Credit/Housing Counselor, through one on one counseling sessions, will help clients establish common sense, workable financial plans which will help the client break down barriers that may be preventing them from reaching their goals. The Counselor will help clients gain insight into their individual credit, budgeting, and debt challenges. The counselor will be expected to adhere to company policy, departmental procedures, data collection/reporting in addition to building upon the success of the program.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Interview clients, gather factual information, assess client’s financial needs and other appropriate data based on the individual client.
  • Determine recommended course of action and work with client to create and implement action plan to help assist them in resolving their financial situation.
  • Counsel clients on budgeting, credit, money management and achievable financial goals
  • Educate clients on credit report, credit ratings and protection laws.
  • Provide educational materials, resources and positive support to help client reach their goals.

Position Requirements:

  • Interact effectively and professionally with clients, board members, creditors, and the community.
  • Ability to work on projects independently with strong personal organization
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in various forms such as verbal, written, over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize, be detail oriented, enter/track data, etc.
  • Ability to show empathy and compassion.
  • Basic proficiency with calculator, keyboard, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of credit reporting, financial products, lending products and mortgages preferred
  • Willingness to be trained, ask questions, and be an effective team player

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • 2 years related work experience in banking/lending/credit counseling, and/or human services is preferred but will train if necessary.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $30,000.00 to $32,000.00 /year

Financial Case Manager

Are you looking for a position that will make a difference in the lives of others?  Center For Siouxland is a local nonprofit with a mission of helping people, empowering lives and building futures. This position is responsible for securing, managing, and maintaining Social Security benefits; collaborating with community services, medical professionals and family members; providing ongoing financial counseling; and shielding clients from abuse and exploitation.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison to Social Security Administration to monitor and maintain clients’ eligibility for benefits.
  • Coordinate with clients’ mental health providers to develop information and documentation regarding changes in clients’ situations that may impact eligibility
  • Maintain a rigorous organizational system to track all reporting activities and outstanding issues
  • Develop an expertise in the area of Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Income eligibility and other related benefits (Medicaid, Medicare, Dept. of Human Services, Section 8, etc.)
  • Ability to develop and maintain a workable budget for clients
  • Support the mission and functions of Center For Siouxland
  • Provide crisis intervention for clients when necessary

Position Requirements:

  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills including ability to juggle multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse populations, as well as superior written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems
  • Experience working with populations with mental illness
  • Computer literate and working knowledge of Microsoft products and the ability to learn specialized databases and software systems.
  • Commitment to providing services in an atmosphere of dignity and respect
  • Must be a team player, willing to assist at all levels of the organization

Experience/Education:

  • Degree in Human Services Field
