Center For Siouxland Begins Investment Fraud Prevention Program

January 17, 2007

Have you, a family member or anyone you know, ever gotten caught up with a “too good to be true” scam that has wiped out a lifetime of savings?

Every year thousands become victims of investment fraud.  Many victims wish they had an opportunity to share their experiences with others.  The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is making that happen.  In a recent partnership with the Seniors Against Investment Fraud ($AIF) program, seniors in Woodbury County will be trained to conduct presentations to fellow seniors.

These presentations are designed to teach participants how to avoid becoming a victim of investment fraud and/or to provide resources for those who have already become victims of fraud.  Prevention education is especially important for seniors as their age group is often the
target population for scams.  RSVP currently is seeking senior volunteers who are interested in conducting these presentations.

For more information, please contact Center For Siouxland at 252-1861 ext. 21.  Center For Siouxland is a non-profit agency that has provided services for individuals and families for the past 31 years and offers the Retired Senior Volunteer Program along with a wide array of other programs such as Senior Companions, Consumer Credit Counseling, representative payee, emergency family shelter, transitional housing for the homeless, 2-1-1 information and referral line, utility assistance, prescription assistance and a food pantry.
