RSVP Recognizes Its Longest Partnership During National Volunteer WeekApril 08, 2008National Volunteer Week, April 27-May 3, reminds us it is important to thank and showcase countless volunteers for their hard work and dedication to our community. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), a service provided by Center For Siouxland, has provided volunteers to help staff the Sgt. Floyd Welcome Center for the past 19 years.
When the Sergeant Floyd Welcome Center opened in May of 1989, a crew of volunteers from the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) were recruited to greet visitors and provide information on the Siouxland area and Iowa. Nineteen years later, the partnership still exists. Center For Siouxland’s RSVP program provides volunteers who provide services seven days a week, twelve months of the year choosing either a morning or afternoon, four hour shift. The volunteers bring a personal knowledge of local geography, culture, business and agriculture with an enthusiasm for helping and educating visitors.
Persons, 55 years and older, who are interested in volunteering may call (712) 252-1861, ext. 21. Center For Siouxland is a local non-profit that provides vital services to the community including a food pantry, utility assistance, prescription assistance, transitional housing for the homeless, 2-1-1 information and referral line, Consumer Credit Counseling, Senior Companion Program, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and Representative Payee Program.
