What You Need to Know When Buying a HouseAugust 14, 2006Center For Siouxland is offering classes for individuals to help them prepare in making one of the most important financial transactions in your lifetime...buying a house. The course is entitled, “My First Home” and is offered FREE to the public. It is designed to help those wanting more information about purchasing a home and those with no credit or poor credit. Center For Siouxland was awarded a $5,000 grant from Iowa Home Ownership Education Project (IHOEP) to teach this course. “My First Home” consists of several classes covering different topics related to financial well being including: budgeting your money, making the decision to borrow money, terms of the deal, loans, credit cards, delinquent payments and bankruptcy. Topics specific to the purchase of a house include predatory lending, credit reports, prequalifying for a loan, how to select a real estate agent, negotiating an offer, home appraisals, home inspectors, the closing process and home maintenance. Upon completion of the one year course, participants will find themselves better prepared to make wise financial decisions both in the purchase of their first home and with other aspects of their life related to finances. After all, only the homebuyers can determine how large of a house payment they will be comfortable making, not their banker, their real estate agent, their friends or their family. By taking this course and reviewing their finances and their individual situation they will have the knowledge to understand everything involved. Take this course and take charge of your finances! To sign up for the next “My First Home” class call K.C. at 252-1861 ext. 47. |
